Highland Women Invited To Open The Door In May

Women from all over the Highlands and Islands are being encouraged to get involved with an innovative event, by arts organisations Play Pieces.

Open the Door, an online literary festival by Glasgow Women’s Library on 18 May from 10 am to 6 pm, will virtually engage people from around the corner and around the world to discover and discuss the vibrancy of Scottish women’s writing past and present.

This year the focus is on work by poets Sandie Craigie and Olive Fraser and author Muriel Spark. Lindsay Dunbar, founder of Play Pieces, is encouraging women in the Highlands and Islands to record short extracts of work by the pioneering writers.

“The idea is to celebrate their work and also celebrate the voices of women. I would like as many short extracts of women from every corner of the Highlands and Islands to have their voices heard - all the beautiful different accents, dialects and languages. It’s a great opportunity to support a national event.”

Hannah Moore from Glasgow Women's Library said "We're delighted to be working with Play Pieces on Open the Door 2018. To get involved record yourself reading a short extract of work by Sandie Craigie, Olive Fraser and Muriel Spark and send it to director@playpieces.co.uk by Monday 7 May.

Contributions will be shared online during the day.
